A London woman is fuming after her precious diamond bracelets, valued at over £15,000, went missing during a repair process handled by Royal Mail. Nikoo Tayebi, 47, entrusted her husband-gifted £6,500 bracelet and her mother's £8,500 heirloom bracelet to Royal Mail for delivery to a local jeweler. However, the tracking updates stopped after the packages were redirected to Royal Mail's National Return Centre (NRC) in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Despite multiple calls to Royal Mail, the bracelets were never returned to her. Nikoo is convinced that her jewelry was stolen at the NRC, as Royal Mail's procedures involve opening and inspecting parcels without sender addresses there. The Metropolitan Police and Postal Review Panel have launched an investigation, and Royal Mail has acknowledged the addressing error and the missing parcel. Nikoo is devastated, not only for the financial loss but also because she may no longer be able to pass down her bracelet to her daughter. The case highlights the importance of insurance for valuable items and the potential risks associated with sending high-value items through the postal system.
