Get ready, college football fans, because this is big! Quarterback Nico Iamaleava has made a significant decision, and it's sending ripples through the UCLA Bruins' camp. In a Monday announcement, Iamaleava revealed he will remain with UCLA for the 2026 season, also opting out of the 2026 NFL draft.
Iamaleava, who transferred to UCLA from Tennessee before the 2025 season, is a redshirt sophomore. The Bruins' 2025 season was a tough one, finishing with a 3-9 record, which led to the firing of coach DeShaun Foster after an 0-3 start.
But here's where it gets interesting: UCLA has swiftly brought in James Madison coach Bob Chesney. Chesney led the Dukes to the College Football Playoff, though they faced a defeat against Oregon with a score of 51-34 on Saturday.
During the season, Iamaleava showcased his skills, throwing for 1,928 yards, with 13 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions.
And this is the part most people miss: Despite his performance, ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. doesn't rank Iamaleava among the top 10 draft-eligible quarterbacks. With two years of eligibility left, Iamaleava has plenty of time to refine his game and potentially climb the ranks.
