Patch 35.6.2: A New Meta, New Cards, and New Strategies
Blizzard has released Patch 35.6.2, bringing a host of changes to Hearthstone, Arena, and Battlegrounds. With a new expansion on the horizon, the devs have taken the opportunity to shake up the meta, nerf some powerful cards, and introduce new strategies. Here's a breakdown of the key changes and my thoughts on what they mean for the game.
Hearthstone Updates
Card Changes
Confront the Tol'vir: Nerfed from 3 mana to 4 mana, this card has been a staple of No Hand Hunter and Companion Hunter builds. The devs are trying to balance the meta by reducing its power.
The Eternal Hold: Reduced from 6 mana to 1 mana when your deck has no minions, this card has been too strong in No Minion Demon Hunter decks. Now it's more in line with the rest of the field.
Hatchery Helper: Adjusted as part of the ongoing effort to tune Token Druid. The card now gives +1/+1 instead of +1/+2 to minions with 2 or less attack.
Twilight Egg: The deathrattle has been changed from summoning a 2/2 Whelp to a 2/1 Whelp. This is a relatively light-touch adjustment to help rein in midrange and aggro decks.
New Cards
- Crystallized Leyline: Buffed from summoning a 5-cost minion to a 6-cost minion. This card is receiving a second buff to give it a better chance to make an impact.
Arena Updates
Added to the Draft Pool
- Bursting Leyline
- Mystic Runesaber
- Leywalker
- Crystallized Leyline
- Surge Needle
- Leyline Nexus
- Baleful Blazer
- Destructive Phoenix
- Primordial Lord
- Tunneling Geomancer
Battlegrounds Updates
Minion Changes
Buffs: Several minions have been buffed to support Beasts, Murlocs, Quilboar, and Undead.
Nerfs: Most of the nerfs have been focused on Dragons. Ring Bearer has been kept but made less prevalent by removing Egg of the Endtimes and nerfing Twilight Hatchling.
Trinket Changes
Bans: Double Stitch Needle has been banned in Murloc games, and Chillmere Mosaic has been banned from Millhouse and Sindragosa.
Cost Changes: Several trinkets have had their costs increased or decreased.
Effect Changes: Chromatic Tear has been changed from getting 2 random Chromadrakes to getting 1 random Chromadrake, and Stuffed Coin Purse has had its reward reduced from 15 gold to 12 gold.
Personal Thoughts
As someone who enjoys the strategic depth of Hearthstone, I appreciate the devs' efforts to balance the meta. The nerfs to powerful cards like Confront the Tol'vir and The Eternal Hold will likely lead to a more diverse meta, which is always a good thing. The new cards, like Crystallized Leyline, offer exciting new strategies to explore.
However, I'm concerned about the impact of the nerfs on certain decks. No Hand Hunter, for example, has been a popular and unique deck, and the nerf to Confront the Tol'vir may make it less viable. It's important for the devs to monitor the meta and make adjustments as needed to ensure that all decks have a chance to shine.
Overall, Patch 35.6.2 is a welcome change to the game, offering new strategies and a more balanced meta. As always, I'm excited to see how players adapt and find new ways to win with the cards at their disposal.
