The need for a striker is particularly pressing, with Hartley questioning the feasibility of integrating a new signing into the team before Sunday's crucial clash against Hearts. "Finding a top-quality striker in just 12 days is a tall order," he argues, suggesting Celtic might settle for a last-minute loan deal.
But here's where it gets controversial... Hartley doesn't mince words, criticizing Celtic's long-standing habit of leaving transfers until the eleventh hour. He points to the previous window's late acquisition of Kelechi Iheanacho as a prime example. "It's a pattern," he says, "and it's costing them."
The frustration is palpable, not just from Hartley but also from manager Martin O'Neill and the fanbase. The atmosphere at Celtic Park, once electric, seems to have dimmed. Hartley acknowledges O'Neill's experience but emphasizes the urgent need for reinforcements: "They're not playing well, and recruitment is key. Hartley also advocates for looking closer to home, highlighting the talent within the Scottish Premiership. Players like Hibs' Kieron Bowie and Dundee's Luke Graham, he believes, deserve Celtic's attention. "Sometimes you need players who already understand the league," he explains, emphasizing the importance of adaptability.
